RefreshPC is a small, simple, and neat application that lets you reset the registry entries and the state of the Windows services to their default values.

Besides “refreshing” the status of your Windows’ registry and services, this neat little tool will also clear the Windows temporary files (both the “Temporary” folder and the “prefetch” files). By performing the resetting of the registry keys to the default values, RefreshPC can fix your computer when it’s affected by various errors and problems caused by broken and malfunctioning registry entries.

RefreshPC is a very simple program. Its interface comes with only one, single button, letting you “refresh” all the supported settings at once. There are no customization possibilities, so you won’t be able to select any specific settings, services, or registry area for resetting or cleaning. This is a disadvantage in my opinion, as you have to trust this app that it won’t mess up your computer. Even after it’s done “refreshing” your PC, it still won’t show what settings it actually changed and reverted. Anyway, it allows creating a system restore point before using it, so you should be safe.

Cutting long story short, RefreshPC is a pretty interesting free application that can help you when your system needs a “refresh”. It’s not sophisticated and it doesn’t care to explain what exactly it does (what changes it performs), but giving it a try can’t hurt.

Pros

  • Creates restore points
  • Free
  • Very simple, neat and easy-to-use

Cons

  • Doesn't provide additional details about the changes it makes
  • Doesn't allow performing only separate changes
  • Can't be customized in any way
